Lose 10 Pounds in 2 Weeks
Have you ever wondered if it is possible to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks? Losing ten pounds in two weeks sounds like a rational goal for most people, however let’s break it down and examine the facts a little closer. To lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks, a person would have to lose five pounds per week, which means they would have to lose nearly a pound of body mass each day. About 1 pound a day sounds doable, however let’s do some further exploration to see if losing ten pounds in two weeks is reasonable and safe.
Based on information found all over the internet, we can all agree that to burn one pound of fat you need to burn around 3500 calories. So to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks a person would have to burn up a total of 35,000 calories over the two week period. Divide that into 14 days, and it means that a person would have to burn up 2,500 calories per day. Burning 2500 calories a day looks like it can be a challenge, below are some figures in case you want to do the math yourself.
- 1 pound = 3,500 calories
- 10 pounds = 35,000 calories
- 2 weeks = 14 days
- 35,000 calories / 14 days = 2,500 calories per day
Daily Calorie Intake
Now to keep the body functioning properly we need to figure the daily intake. The daily calorie intake varies based on your activity and your weight, but based on ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine1) the average daily intake per day should be around 2,000 for a woman and around 2,500 for a man. As a side note, they recommend that the calorie intake per day should never drop below 1,200 for a woman and 1,800 calories for a man.
If you are a man your body needs about 2500 calories per day, and the lowest you should go is 1800 calories. So that means to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks naturally you would have to cut your calorie intake significantly and hit the gym hard to burn off a lot of calories. This type of diet is probably not for everyone, especially if you have any existing health problems.
For some who are overweight it will probably be nothing to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks. But for those who are not so obese it may be wiser to play it safe and stick to a less demanding way to lose weight. I would probably pass out after a few days if I tried this diet. All I can say is be cautious and as always check with your health physician or doctor before attempting any type of diet.
