First introduced in 1972 by Dr. Robert C. Atkins, the diet is based on an unusual regimen of high-protein, low-carb, low-sugar foods. So, foods like steaks (big ones) and bacon, eggs and cheese are okay, breads, potatoes, rice, cakes and anything with sugar is off-limits.
